It all started just 4 years ago and before that I never knew that I could sing. This is strange because musicians usually come from backgrounds that are deeply ingrained in musical training. I just used to listen to songs I love and try singing them.
One day a friend of mine invited me to his studio where other musicians were also present. They listened and loved my voice so much that they wanted me to work with them. The belief they had in me shaped me as a full time singer and a musician. This is when it all began.
My first live performance was for a television channel in 2013 which was a tribute to Celine Dion. From then, there was no looking back. One of my biggest achievements so far is performing on the same stage as the legendary John McLaughlin at the International Jazz and Blues Festival 2015 along with my former band Blues Brothers. What an inspirational experience it was!
Being selected from a telecom led music talent hunt as one of the winners, experience of singing for Wind of Change, performing with Miles, doing random informal collaborations with artists of different parts of the world – all are part of my journey so far. I fondly cherish each of them. So far I have had great experience of working with brilliant musicians of the country like Fuad Al Muktadir, Romel Ali, Shaker Raza, Pantha Kanai, Kaushik Hossain Taposh and many more.
But the yearning of a singer is more and continuous. And in that vein, progression led me to a new road of further aspirations on the day when I was selected and signed up to be the First Female Ambassador of ArtistSpread, a joint initiative of Creinse and Sony DADC. I look towards spreading my music beyond the boundaries of Bangladesh to the endless geographies of opportunities.
My musical inspiration comes from Beyonce, Ronnie James Dio, Al Jarreau, Hiatus, Kaiyote, Robert Glasper Experiment, Esperanza Spalding and you can keep counting because the list goes on and on.
As much as I am a musician, there is a foodie side of me too which makes me indulge in good food and creating culinary delights as a passionate home chef. A befitting distraction indeed.
Yet music reigns above all. Love me, love my music and stay connected!
